Residents Learn to Make Quilts

Residents Learn to Make Quilts

Each day residents spend time making a craft, playing a game or working on a project together with a staff member or volunteer. In the past the ladies have made beaded bookmarks, crocheted and created greeting cards.

This fall Twila Longenberger, AFH volunteer, spent several days each month with the residents teaching them how to make a quilt. Each lady picked out colors and prints of fabrics they like with the goal of making a nine-block quilt.

Twila walks them through the steps of how to measure and cut out their pieces with precision. After all the pieces were cut, they then learned how to sew them together. This is a project that will take quite a while to complete, but the ladies are really excited about it. We also think it will give them a real sense of accomplishment when it’s completed.
