Melissa
As a child Melissa liked dolls, playing with her brothers and taking nature hikes with her dad.
AFH Ministries began in 1983 as a crisis pregnancy center called Citizens Concerned for Life, an educational organization dedicated to raising awareness of abortion. It grew to include practical help for women, offering services women needed so that they could choose life for their babies.
The work of the center was very important but we saw a need deeper than surface help. We knew that a residential facility was essential to foster the lasting changes women need to make and help them learn how to lead healthy lives. The vision for A Friend’s House was born.
A group of investors donated a former nursing home to AFH Ministries. Through the combined efforts of more than 400 volunteers and 31 churches in the northeast Indiana area, the 10,000-square-foot building was renovated, remodeled, and transformed into a beautiful home. Our focus on restoration creates a refuge for women who struggle with self-harm, eating disorders, severe depression, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse or unplanned pregnancies.
