Families

Family members and friends are often involved in the process of finding a program for their loved one, and supporting her as she strives to make changes. You may have questions about the program, your involvement and how your loved one can begin the process. These are loved ones most commonly asked questions.

If you have a question that you do not see here, click a link below to ask us directly, or call us toll-free at 1-877-821-5556.

When can residents go home to visit their families?

Only when a woman has progressed to the Independent Stage, and when arrangements are made in advance with her advocate. Visits are privileges that women receive based upon the progress they make in groups and on their goals.

We treat visits home as trial-periods to see if each woman applies what she has learned in an environment outside of AFH. Since there are no vacations from the program, residents are not allowed to leave for family vacations, spring break, etc. During the Development and Strengthening Stages women can earn local visits with her family.

AFH closes once a year for 10 business days over the Christmas and New Year's holidays. Residents either go home, or if home is not a good option, we will make arrangements for her to stay with other families.
